The members of the MYSfits string ensemble are outreach ambassadors for the Metropolitan Youth Symphony (MYS.) These dedicated young musicians enjoy playing and performing chamber orchestra music in and around the Portland, Oregon area. The group performs outreach concerts for school children, retirement homes, and at benefit concerts and special events, including for the Multnomah Country Board of Commissioners, the Randall Children's Hospital opening gala, and the Oregon State House of Representatives. MYSfits is for current MYS musicians who enjoy a small ensemble setting and who wish to expand their musical experience and repertoire.
The Metropolitan Youth Symphony is a non-profit organization that provides musical training to young musicians with twelve performing groups. Yearly enrollment is more than 400 students, from seven years through college age. MYS musicians come from all over the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area. The MYS concert season consists of three performances at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts and 9 community concerts at schools and other venues. Each year MYS ensembles perform as many as 18 outreach concerts to school children, both in the greater Portland metro area and in outlying communities.
